Hey Brad, yeah, rough scenario. Glad to hear that this isn't how they roll in Kansas. I need to come out there and collect me some better stories! Hopefully, more delightful posts are forthcoming (this was from March of 08 and was randomly tweeted using a plugin that spits out old posts once a day to try and make use of all that older content that gets lost in the abyss of the past).

JR, I am glad that didn't happen in Kansas Sorry but I can't think of one example where that might "work." Even if it did "work" I don't think I want it to, because it would just continue to perpetuate a perverted view of the gospel. Stories like these just make me more jaded towards how we understand, live and share the gospel. Could you share an encouraging example/story tomorrow!

@ Christian – I appreciate your optimism here, and hey, I am brand new so what do I know, but man I find it had to think that style for the sake of a certain crowd should ever eclipse things like love and grace, and this isn’t even to mention a sorrowfully distortion of the gospel – might be one of those, "you just had to be there sort of things."

@ Emily – anything else you’d like to prepare me for??

@ Dad – yeah, imagine the atmosphere you guys typically experience at the little Lutheran church you are a part of, flip it upside down and there ya go

@ Alex – yes, yes, yes, you said naiveness, that’s freaking awesome!! I think what you are looking for naivete, but I like your way better. What you are saying is very true and I hope you are right, thanks bro.

Unfortunately ignorance or naiveness is everywhere. I imagine even in our tiny nation the diversity of experiences and differences in communities are as foreign as any other countries. I pray this is only a small example of the Christian believers you encounter and I pray you have the strength for the challenges ahead.

That sort of thing isn’t really my style either, but it might reach some people who have a harder shell and who wouldn’t be comfortable discussing their "faith journey" or whatever. Maybe this guys knows his audience?

Right… I suppose I shouldn’t be all that surprised, but man it was just surreal to actually experience it first hand. I suppose the upside is the utter dependency I will need to have on God, but bottom line, I’m pretty darn nervous.
