I do agree that the tasered part of the situation was a little extreme, but this guy is one who loves attention. One example is that the day the final Harry Potter book was released he stood outside a book store with a huge sign that said what happens in the end (who dies). I will not name the character, do to not wanting to spoil it for those who have not read the book yet. He filmed himself doing this too. He also has done some pranks at bars (faking being drunk and trying to pick up girls). He always films himself when he does these stupid stunts. So when you watch the film of the Florida situation you can see that from the beginning he was looking for attention. All he could have done was leave the mike and sit down, but he went for the attention and started screaming and acting like an idiot. So I think that he got what he wanted "National attention" just not sure that he was expecting to be tasered. Rather scary. Did you hear Kerry in the background go on like nothing was happening and state, "I will answer that since that is a good question" ? This excessive force has been used for years now and only recently with increased media presence and increased use or the internet is it seen. I worked for a local Fire-Dept. and was on the inside of many of the goings on of the local police department. It would be scary for anyone to hear the conversations of some of these people sworn to protect the citizens of the United States. Unfortunately it ruins the reputations for good police officers in their particular positions to "calm" and not escalate violence. What should have happened: 1. He should have been allowed to speak, but if not and no telling what orders were being given to the police, he should have been approached with respect and conversation. I would've thought John Carry would have broken up scuffle since it seems he would have the power in that situation 2. I too was outraged when I saw this on youtube. The washington post has a great article on it. First of all this young thinker is exactly the type of person we need to sustain a democracy. He asked insightful and pointed questions that go beyond all the political pandering and sound bite BS. Second, as you alluded to perhaps it is the church that needs to be asking these sorts of questions rather than joining in the pandering of our current political milieu. Third, maybe the church needs to have people asking these sorts of questions about its own politics! I am so outraged. This makes me want to vote for Ron Paul even more. Our liberties are seriously threatened, not so much by global terorrism as much as by the mass incompetence and mass glaze that contributes to the stupifying of the American people.
