I just returned from a weekend excursion with Maria and our friend Julianne to Molde (mole-duh), which is on the western coast of Norway and is where her parents (Øystein & Oddbjørg) live. We flew out on Thursday evening, on Friday I woke early to go for a long run along the coastline. In the afternoon we saw some of the quaint little town on the bank of the fjørd. Friday afternoon Maria, her dad, Julianne and I set off on Øystein’s boat for an island called Bjørnsund where his parents lived and where they still have a small house/cottage. It was some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever witnessed.

We spent the night on the island and went fishing early the next morning. We returned for breakfast and cleaned the house before we left as it was being closed up for the winter season. When we returned to Molde we got busy preparing for a small party that we were having that evening for some of Maria’s Molde-friends.

The highlight of Sunday was an excursion to Garinger by way of a journey which included driving through underwater tunnels, over bridges, onto ferries, and through the mountains. One of my favorite parts was encountering random animals roaming freely on the mountainsides.

We had a wonderful lunch at an historic hotel that had an amazing collection of antique cars. We saw Julianne off that evening as she went on to travel the coast southwards toward Bergen and Stavanger. Maria and I watched a very good movie called, Match Point, and hit the sack.

Monday morning went like a flash and by the early afternoon, Maria and I were on bus which took us to a train, which took us back across Norway to Oslo. The train ride was incredible. The view from the window of the train was virtually constantly post-card-worthy. There were waterfalls, huge expanses of farming land and always mountains filled with forestry. It was such a great trip. I can’t stress enough how much you ought to make a point of visiting Norway, and especially the western coast around Molde, you won’t regret it!
