• Laura Dixon (If you see me please ask me what I would have titled this if I had the guts)

    January 5, 2006

K, she’s gonna hate that I used this picture, but it’s the only one I could come up with. I’ll try and make up for it with my words.

Laura is from Chicago, I’m pretty sure she’s my only acquaintance who is a true Willow Creek prodigy. She went to Westmont college, and for my Malone friends, knew our friend Scott Schuller. After graduating from Westmont she spent a year in India as a missionary. I met Laura last year when she was hanging out in one of my classes (thought she wasn’t in it) after she moved out to Pasadena. She’s now a full fledged Fuller student and is solely responsible for me changing from doing dual MA’s to just doing a single MA, so thank (blame?) her.

Laura lives in an urban theme intentional community, is a teacher, serves weekly meals to those in need (which translates into the homeless, poverty stricken, and Fuller students). She’s got an awesome laugh, can’t focus on one idea or topic for more than about five minutes, and has the uncanny ability to sing the tune from free fallin with any other song or lyrics.

That’s not all ther is to Laura though. She’s also a sincere and passionate follower and lover of Jesus who is constantly wrestling with what it means to be authentic and true with God, self, and others. She’s got a heart for the poor and oppressed that is a constant challenge to me. Everytime I turn around Laura is talking to someone new – her supply of friends seems to be endless, which only goes to show what an incredible personality she has. On top of all that, I’d have like 10 times less fun in Pasadena if it wasn’t for Laura. She’s great!

I would have to whole heartedly agree with your description of Laura. Just seeing her makes me smile.

Speaking of one of Laura’s friends since her Westmont days, yep, that’s her. Although she claims that she can stay on topic for more than five minutes and I must admit that I have seen it (maybe not too often though). Laura is an amazing friend, true and good, a wonderful listener and loyal. We have walked through some of life’s hardest days together and through some of the brightest days as well. She is one of my favorite people in the whole world!
