Zoey and I were friends from the word go, and it’s not just becasue she has the coolest name ever – ζωη (zoe) n. – greek “life”. Life in the absolute sense, life as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself, and which He gave to the Incarnate Son to have in Himself (Strongs #2222) – it’s also because she’s completely unwilling to allow what it means to be a follow of Jesus to be comodified and trivialized.
I met Zoey when a mutual friend invited us both to a David Crowder Concert toward the beginning of last quarter. Zoey really didn’t even know Crowder all that well and was reticent about the concert becasue she “tries to avoid large Christian crowds.” She, like me, is not a big fan of the crowd mentality and the way those who call themselves Christians seem to get more excited about Christian concerts and songs about God than they are about God Himself and what it means to follow Him in obedience. She’s a So. Cal. native, though she is working on integrating the OH into her life (she actually has relatives in Chagrin Falls!) and is obsessed with Phase 10 (card game – if you didn’t know that don’t admit it to her).
Zoey is a fourth “member” of our church community and is the proud owner of an SUV which we commonly refer to as “our church van.” Zoey is working on the same degree as me and plans to work on a Marriage and Famliy Therapy degree as well. She’s about as honest as they come and loves the idea of what God intends the Church to be. She is already a seasoned minister and constantly reminds me that if what we talk about theologically doesn’t connect with how we live our lives then it’s all vanity. I am super excited to have her as a friend and am quite certain that God is going to do some incredible things in and through her.

2Okay so I’m a little late as this was posted awhile ago…but…Zoey is awesome!
Zoey has, as long as I’ve known her, always had this insatiable desire to be after the things of God…truly…not just “nice” words and sentiments that Christians say to sound good. I can’t stand most Christians
But Zoey has not and never will be in that category of Christian.
Love ya Zoey!
P.S. JR…you’re a great judge of character!
