• Missional Communities

It just occurred to me that many of you may not be familiar with the term “missional community,” which I used in the post below as well as in several conversations this summer.

This summer many people asked me, “So, what are you planning on doing after Seminary?” I responded basically the same to everyone, but I am not sure everyone really understood what I meant. If you’re reading this and we never had the chance to have that conversation, basically I was telling people that I would like to be one of a team of people committed to the idea of forming and developing an intentional community which embodies the gospel for the sake of the world, specifically those whom God brings into our sphere of influence (a.k.a. Missional Community). I don’t expect that this will be on a paid basis. Secondarily, I am excited to pursue some sort of vocation, perhaps either in the collegiate world or in regard to church renewal.

At any rate, if you have any desire to know what the heck I am talking about or would just like to be informed on the idea of missional communities in general, I am glad to help.

For a brief, but really, really great take on the difference between traditional churches and missional communities please see this article.

If this wets your appetite, I highly reccommend Missional Church by Darrell Guder. This is probably the best book on the Church that I have read to date.

Fairly soon I hope to write something detailing just why this is so important to me and will undoubtedly argue, as I am prone to do, that it should be equally imperative to all those who name Jesus as their Lord. Till then, happy reading.
