Dear Friends – So sorry I haven’t been able to post in a while. My computer remains in repair limbo and I am anxiously awaiting its return. Thankfully I have gracious roommates who also have laptops. I started at San Marino this past Sunday. It was like a breath of fresh air to be around senior high students again. I am very much looking forward to getting to know them better. As I write it is raining and has been for the last 5 or so hours. We had about 5 straight days of rain last week, whch is just unheard of. It has been like 6 months since there has been any rain at all. It’s kinda funny – you would think there were tornadoes ripping through the area. When it rains in LA, people are scared to go out, there are numerous car accidents, stuff breaks, and homes suffer damage becuase they just aren’t built to stand up to the ravaging waters from above. Classe continue to go well and I continue to be challenged. I am saddened to find so many people who do not seem to be radically Christ centered at a Seminary. Many times I feel like I am being looked at as a fundamentalist when I ask questions pertaining to the place of the gospel, the remembrance of the cross, and so forth. I get this not so much from the professors as much as other students. So, to the extent that Fuller has been labeled liberal, I think it is on account of the student majority, but as of now, I wouldn’t throw that label on it. I got to play soccer today in the rain. Rain is the great equlizer in outdoor soccer, it pretty much puts everyone of the same playing level, so I got to feel like a pro. I was even able to save a goal right at the end by sprinting the length of the field and sliding in front of the goal to knock the ball out. Had SportsCenter been there it would have made the top 10. I also turned in a resume today at San Marino HS as they contacted me about a possible soccer coaching opportunity. Not sure if that will pan out, I need to weigh the benefits and down sides – time being the biggets factor right now. Anyway, totally miss everyone and am already looking forward to December and seeing everyone when I am home. Yours – JR.
